Dream Dictionary
A dictionary from the Spellbook — symbols A–Z, and themes from Alphabet through Wedding.
The symbol list and themes follow the Dream Moods A–Z dictionary and theme pages. The readings here are written for the Spellbook. A symbol is a reading, not a prediction.
A dream relationship echoes the waking one. It often shows the sentence you have been unwilling to say.
A
Abandonment
Being left behind asks you to drop old attitudes that stall your growth, or it names a fear of desertion after a loss. Leaving someone else means the choices in front of you feel like too much.
Abuse
Hurting someone else brings old actions back as regret, while being hurt means you feel used. Harm toward animals or children points to a younger part of you that has no voice.
Adultery
An affair points to desire you have not expressed, or to a tangle that does not serve you. A partner straying names fear of being left or taken for granted.
Affection
Warmth you show means the bond feels satisfying, or that people you love need more of it. The dream can also mean affection is scarce while you are awake.
Alimony
Paying alimony means past mistakes are still sending you the bill.
Amorous
Feeling amorous is temptation, and private appetite may pull you into scandal. Other people, or animals, in that mood can lure you toward desires that will not satisfy.
Annulment
An annulment means you are refusing to admit something.
Apologize
Saying you are sorry seeks harmony and may name a guilt you still owe, or a grudge ready to drop. Someone apologizing to you means you feel wronged.
Argument
An argument is an inner conflict or an unsettled waking issue, so notice who you fight and what the fight is about. Hearing one means a matter is not being discussed and you feel overlooked.
B
Betrayal
Being betrayed names suspicion about a person or a commitment, often while you already feel insecure. It can also be feeling sorry for yourself.
Blind Date
Meeting someone you cannot see beforehand is an unknown part of yourself you are trying to admit.
See also Date.
Break-Up
Ending the romance means something must be released, however hard. If they end it, the bond may be changing rather than failing; if you cannot accept an ending that already happened, denial is still in place.
C
Cheating
Cheating on a partner is guilt, a broken promise to yourself, or desire you are curious about; near a wedding it often marks nerves about a new identity. A partner cheating is fear of being left, or a hint you have already noticed.
Crush
Crushing something is heavy stress over a decision; a crushed body is expression blocked. A crush on someone is real attraction, and a repeated dream of them may be the moment to say so or to move on.
D
Date
A date is a chance to meet a side of yourself you have kept quiet, or a rehearsal for nerves about being accepted. A calendar date marks time passing or an appointment you should not forget.
Dates
Ripe dates on the tree mean it is time to rest and enjoy what is already good. Eating them can mean you keep chasing more and still feel unsatisfied.
Double Date
A double date shows the face you wear in public beside the self you keep private. It can also simply mean you want company.
E
Engagement
An engagement means a wish for commitment and security, or loneliness you want resolved. Breaking one means a hasty decision, and a business engagement means worry at work.
Ex
An ex appears when a present relationship wakes the old feelings from that pairing. Use what you learned then, and do not assume the night is asking you to reunite.
Ex Girlfriend
An ex-girlfriend who is pregnant with your child can mean a wish to return, while a child that is not yours means you have accepted the ending. Your current partner's ex points to insecurity about whether you measure up.
Ex-Boyfriend
An ex-boyfriend from early life recalls a lighter romance and a vitality missing now. Wanting him back may be that feeling, or simply the wish to be wanted again.
F
Flirting
Flirting means you need intimacy, and a serious bond may be near. A partner flirting elsewhere means distance, or a fear that you do not measure up.
G
Girlfriend
Your girlfriend here echoes the waking bond and how you feel toward her. Playing the role of a girlfriend, when you are not one, means you are not ready to be tied to one commitment.
H
Heartbreak
Heartbreak is a transition, or missing love and support so the balance is off. It can also be the emotional pain you are already in.
Hugging
Hugging someone is care, holding them close. Being hugged means you can lower your guard and let the real feeling show.
Husband
Your husband here is the waking bond and feelings you have not said aloud. If you have no husband, the figure is the wish for partnership or for steady masculine support.
I
Ignore
Ignoring someone, or being ignored, is a part of yourself you are not attending to. It can also match a real snub from that person.
Independent
Independence is open possibility. The dream may also say stand up, decide for yourself, and think on your own.
Indifferent
Acting indifferent means you are hiding how much you care. Someone indifferent toward you leaves you unsure of their intentions.
Infidelity
Infidelity, yours or someone else's, is fear of being left, or a bond that feels too tight and leaves you unsatisfied. Guilt about a sexual tie may be part of it.
See also Adultery.
K
Kiss
A kiss is affection, ease, and a wish for more warmth in a bond. Kissing someone of your own sex, or kissing yourself, is acceptance of the side of you that you have kept quiet; a kiss forced on you is someone pushing their will onto yours.
L
Love
Love here is strong feeling carried from a waking bond, and contentment with where you are. It can also be the lack of love, and the wish to belong; saying it and hearing nothing back means the bond feels uneven.
Lover
A lover is acceptance and a sense of your own worth, feminine and masculine sides joining. An old lover is unfinished business from that bond, often stirred by the relationship you have now.
Lust
Lust means some part of life feels unfulfilled, or that self-control is required. Someone wanting you this way means you think well of yourself.
M
Making Out
Making out is a wish to pursue someone, held back by fear of spoiling a friendship. If you do not want them that way, the dream asks you to take on a trait of theirs.
Miscommunication
A miscommunication mirrors waking trouble getting your point across. Inadequacy sits underneath.
O
Opposite Sex
Becoming the opposite sex asks you to take on qualities you usually leave to the other side, and to notice how that feels.
P
Proposal
A proposal joins you to a side of yourself you had not known, or it is real thought about marriage or a long commitment. Your reaction shows how you actually feel.
R
Relationships
A relationship here often mirrors the waking bond and the part you are getting wrong. A stranger as partner can be a side of you that you are trying to meet.
S
Secret Admirer
A secret admirer is an unknown side of you that needs to be brought in. It can also be a real person who is interested.
Seduction
Seduction is sexual wanting. It can also mean you are being drawn into something you do not actually want.
Separation
A separation is fear of being left, or of no longer being needed.
Single
Dreaming you are single when you are not means handle the matter yourself rather than borrowing someone else's strength.
W
Wife
Your wife points to discord and feelings you are not saying. If you have no wife, she is the feminine side of you, or a wish for that bond.
