Dream Dictionary

A dictionary from the Spellbook — symbols A–Z, and themes from Alphabet through Wedding.

The symbol list and themes follow the Dream Moods A–Z dictionary and theme pages. The readings here are written for the Spellbook. A symbol is a reading, not a prediction.

The house is the self. Upper rooms lean toward thought, lower rooms toward what you keep underneath, and the state of the house is the state of you.

  • Attic

An attic is hidden memory and a higher part of mind coming into view. Clutter there asks you to clear old feeling that holds you back.

    House

  • Backdoor

A rear door means the answer is not the obvious one. You may also be hunting for a shortcut.

    House

  • Backyard

The yard behind the house is childhood memory, a secret, or something you have stopped noticing. Its condition shows how well the parts of life are kept.

    House

  • Balcony

Up on this ledge you want to be seen and to rise in status. Clean, others look up to you; worn, the public face needs repair.

    House

  • Basement

The lowest floor is intuition, basic appetite, and what you have stored because you would not deal with it. Mess there is confusion; the word can also mean you feel brought low.

    House

  • Bathroom

This room is instinct and the need to release what you have been holding, or a cleansing of mood. A public one with no privacy means other people come before you, and you fear being judged for what you let go.

    See also Urination.

    CommonHouse

  • Bay Window

The projecting window is an attempt to see a wider view.

    House

  • Bedroom

This private room is what you keep hidden, including sexuality. The one from childhood means a present feeling has woken an old secret.

    House

  • Ceiling

A ceiling is the limit you have set on mind or spirit. Water damage there is a feeling you keep postponing until it becomes a larger problem.

    House

  • Cellar

A cellar is fear and trouble stored out of sight. Going down into it is facing the past.

    House

  • Chimney

A chimney is warmth, tradition, and family. Smoke is pressure finding a way out; a collapse is vitality failing; sweeping it is the need to vent frustration and guilt.

    House

  • Closet

A closet is something you have kept hidden, or a hidden side ready to be shown. Hiding inside one is protection from being hurt, and fear of being known.

    House

  • Den

A den means focused work and getting things done.

    House

  • Driveway

A driveway means a journey is ending in rest and safety. Rocks on it mean that ending is rough.

    House

  • Drywall

Drywall means you want privacy and a layer of protection after being hurt.

    House

  • Fence

A fence is a barrier or a wish for privacy. A hole in it means the obstacle can be passed, and sitting on it means you have not decided.

    House

  • Floor

The floor is your support and your security. A slanted one means you have drifted from the plan, and higher floors mean higher understanding while lower ones mean more primal concerns.

    House

  • Floorboards

Floorboards mean you are protective of what matters. Loose ones mean you feel insecure about ground that should be solid.

    House

  • Garage

A garage is a stalled stretch, with no clear direction toward your aims. Pulling the car in can mean your own work has bought you some safety; shutting the door means you are delaying those aims for other people.

    House

  • Garden

A food garden says steady work will pay, and that a skill or a private life needs tending. Flowers lean toward calm and domestic warmth; weeds mean that care has been neglected.

    HousePlaces

  • Glass House

A glass house means the praise around you may be flattery rather than the hard truth. Living in one puts your reputation on view, and it warns you not to attack faults you share.

    House

  • Hallway

A hallway is the start of a path and a passage into what you do not know yet. You are between one stage and the next.

    House

  • Hallways

Hallways are the inner corridors you walk while you change. Each turn is a chance, a feeling, or a skill still unused.

    House

  • Home

Home is safety, basic needs, and what you value. A childhood house or a former town brings back an old feeling and an unfinished chapter.

    House

  • House

A house is the self, and its rooms are parts of you: intellect up high, hidden feeling down low. Empty, it is insecurity; a new house is a new phase.

    House

  • Kitchen

A kitchen is warmth, feeding, and the part of you that looks after people you love. If the heat is more than you can bear, the dream says leave the plan.

    House

  • Living Room

The living room is the face you show and what you believe about yourself. It also marks the line between private and public; objects that do not belong there are other parts of life crowding in.

    House

  • Mansion

A mansion is your largest potential, often while the present feels stuck. One in the sky is a lofty aim, or the wish to live above everyone else.

    HousePlaces

  • Passageway

A secret passageway matches something new in waking life: a chance, a bond, or an attitude. Waking before you explore it means you are unsure how to use the opening.

    House

  • Patio

A patio is openness toward a situation: open doors are a receptive mind, and closed ones are refusal. The threshold joins thought and spirit.

    House

  • Porch

A porch is the social face you show. Enclosed, you want distance and privacy; open, you are welcoming.

    House

  • Roof

A roof is the cover over your beliefs and the story you tell about who you are. A leak is unwanted influence getting in; a collapse means high ideals are falling. Standing on top is wide success.

    House

  • Room

A room is one part of you, or one relationship. Discovering a new room is a strength you are growing; a dirty room is something you are ashamed to admit.

    See also Bathroom or Kitchen.

    House

  • Stairs

Walking upstairs is a higher understanding, and progress in spirit, feeling, or material life.

    House

  • Toilet

A toilet is emotional release, or a full bladder trying to wake you. A clog means feelings held too long.

    House

  • Walls

A wall is a limit and a habit blocking progress. Jumping it means you clear a hard obstacle.

    House

  • Window

A window is hope and insight. A small one means you keep expectations low; a large one means you are open.

    House

  • Yard

A neat yard is how well you organize work and social life. A messy one means those outer affairs are out of hand.
