FANG Privacy Policy

FANG ("we", "us", or "our") operates The Fang App and related websites (including thefang.app and thefang.email). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly, information generated through your use of the Service, and limited technical data.

  • Account data: username, email address, password (stored in hashed form), invitation or waitlist details, and membership tier.
  • Profile data: display name, bio, avatar, listening status, profile flair, social links you choose to add, and other optional profile fields.
  • Content you create: posts, comments, messages, reviews, marketplace listings, images, videos, and similar user-generated content.
  • Commerce data: shipping addresses, order history, marketplace seller information, and transaction metadata. Payment card details are processed by our payment provider (Square); we do not store full card numbers.
  • Communications: messages you send through the Service, support requests, and emails you send to us.
  • Usage and device data: IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and actions taken on the Service (for security, analytics, and operation).
  • Cookies and similar technologies: session tokens and preferences needed to keep you logged in and remember settings.

2. How We Use Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service, including feeds, messaging, marketplace, merch, points, and memberships.
  • Process transactions, calculate shipping and taxes where applicable, and facilitate seller payouts.
  • Authenticate users, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our Terms and Covenant, and protect community safety.
  • Send transactional messages (order confirmations, security alerts, account notices) and, where permitted, platform updates.
  • Analyze aggregated usage to fix bugs, improve performance, and develop features.
  • Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.

3. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

  • With other users: content you post publicly (or share in messages) is visible according to the feature you use. Marketplace listings and profiles are visible to other members as designed.
  • Service providers: hosting (e.g., Vercel), database, email delivery, payment processing (Square), shipping (Shippo), fulfillment partners (e.g., Printify for merch), and media storage (e.g., AWS S3) process data on our behalf under contractual obligations.
  • Legal and safety: we may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect rights, safety, or security.
  • Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.

4. Your Choices and Rights

  • Profile and settings: you can update much of your profile and notification preferences in the app (including Configuration).
  • Shipping address: you can view and update saved addresses in your profile and at checkout.
  • Marketing: we send primarily transactional email; you can contact us to opt out of non-essential communications where applicable.
  • Access and deletion: contact nosferatu@thefang.email to request access, correction, or deletion of your personal information, subject to legal and operational requirements (for example, we may retain order records for tax and fraud prevention).
  • Account closure: contact us to request account deactivation; some content or logs may be retained as described in Retention.

5. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.

Backup copies and server logs may persist for a limited period after deletion.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity on your account.

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

Users between 13 and 18 should use the Service only with parental or guardian permission where required by law.

8. International Users

FANG is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. or other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

9. California Privacy Rights

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, request deletion, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell personal information as defined by California law.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy with an updated "Last Updated" date. Material changes may be communicated through the Service or by email where appropriate.

Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
